Why don't young people vote

I agree with the article that as a generation we are viewed as self centered and lazy.  I feel that there is a sense that an individual person's vote doesn't matter but I was surprised to see the extent to which younger people decided not to vote.  I also agreed with younger people having a more optimistic view of America's future than older generations. I believe that the fact that we are moving away from big institutions such as religion and political parties will help people to vote based on their individual views of a topic rather than trying to get a personal gain out of their party winning an election.  Even with news and social media giving us the most information on current politics I do not believe it makes us the most educated.  It is difficult to sort through all of the information and find what is true and relevant to the topics we are supposed to be informed about.
